MG, which originally stood for Morris Garages, is a historic automotive brand that traces its roots back to Oxford, United Kingdom, in the 1920s. Famous for its classic sports cars, the brand underwent significant changes and several changes in ownership throughout the 20th century, eventually becoming part of the MG Rover Group.
Following the collapse of the MG Rover Group in 2005, the brand was acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group, which subsequently merged with SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). Under its current ownership, MG has been revitalized as a global brand focusing on affordable SUVs, sedans, and electric vehicles. While it retains its design and engineering headquarters in Marylebone, London, the vast majority of its vehicle production now takes place in China, and it has become one of the most prominent examples of a classic Western heritage brand successfully reborn under Chinese corporate ownership.
