Türkisch Pfeffer (Danish: Tyrkisk Peber) is a well-known brand of strong licorice flavored with ammonium chloride (salmiak) and pepper or ginger. Originally invented by the Danish confectioner Per Fjelsten in 1976, it was first manufactured by his company, Perelly.
The licensing for the product was acquired by the Finnish company Fazer in the 1990s, which now serves as the primary manufacturer and ultimate owner. The brand has become a cultural staple in the Nordic countries and Germany. Despite its Danish origins and the 'Original dänische' labeling tailored for German markets, the majority of global production now takes place in Finland at Fazer’s manufacturing facilities.
