7UP is one of the world's most recognizable lemon-lime flavored beverage brands. It was originally created by Charles Leiper Grigg in 1929 through his company, The Howdy Corporation, based in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. The product was famously initially marketed as 'Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda' and contained lithium citrate until the late 1940s.
Today, the ownership of 7UP is uniquely split depending on the global region. In the United States and within the North American market, the brand is owned and manufactured by Keurig Dr Pepper. However, for all international markets outside of North America, the rights to the brand were acquired by PepsiCo. This dual-ownership structure means that manufacturing operations are spread across dozens of countries, utilizing local bottling partners under the supervision of either Keurig Dr Pepper or PepsiCo.
The brand remains a staple in the soft drink industry, competing globally in the citrus soda category. While its heritage is firmly rooted in American invention, its massive international footprint makes it a truly global product with manufacturing facilities spanning from Europe to Asia and the Americas.
