Sinemet is a widely recognized brand name for a combination medication containing carbidopa and levodopa, used primarily to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. The brand was originally developed and commercialized by the American pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. (known as MSD outside the US and Canada). It has long served as a gold standard in the management of dopamine-related motor symptoms.
Starting in 2021, Merck spun off its legacy brands, including Sinemet, into a new independent healthcare company named Organon. Today, Sinemet is owned and managed by Organon & Co., while manufacturing occurs in various facilities worldwide to meet global demand, often involving sites in Europe and the United States. Following the spin-off, Organon remains the primary owner responsible for its distribution and clinical maintenance.
