Barnängen is a classic Swedish brand with heritage dating back to 1868, originally founded by Johan Wilhelm Holmström in Stockholm. While the brand is iconic for its Swedish identity and Nordic-inspired ingredients, its production and ownership have shifted over time.

Currently, the brand is owned by the German multinational Henkel. Most of the hair care products sold under the Barnängen name in the Nordic market are manufactured in Henkel's European production facilities, notably in Slovenia, rather than in Sweden. Despite the international ownership and production, the brand maintains its 'Swedishness' through marketing and product formulation tailored to Scandinavian preferences.
