Marabou is a heritage Swedish chocolate brand established in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. While it began as a Swedish branch of the Norwegian Freia company, it grew into its own iconic status within Sweden, symbolizing quality Nordic chocolate.
Today, the brand is owned by the American multinational conglomerate Mondelez International. Most Marabou products sold in Scandinavia are still manufactured at the factory in Upplands Väsby, outside Stockholm, Sweden. Over the decades, ownership transitioned from the original founding family to Kraft Foods, which eventually spun off its snacks division into Mondelez.
