K-Salat is a prominent Danish food brand that has become a household staple in Scandinavia. Founded in 1937 as Københavns Salatfabrik (Copenhagen Salad Factory) by Johannes Peter Christian Nielsen and Hilmar Marius Jacobsen, the company originally specialized in freshly made salads delivered to local residents via dedicated 'salad cars.' The brand shortened its name to K-Salat in 1974 and eventually moved its production to Havnsø, Denmark, where it remains closely tied to the local community.
Over the decades, ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major food groups. In 2017, the Norwegian-based food giant Agra AS acquired K-Salat from Orkla. Today, the brand is managed under the Stryhns Gruppen, a Danish subsidiary of Agra. The product line, including its iconic Klassisk Remoulade, continues to be manufactured at the historical facility in Havnsø, ensuring that it retains its traditional Danish culinary heritage and flavor profile.
