The DualShock 4 is the primary wireless controller for the PlayStation 4 video game console, developed and manufactured by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Since its global launch in 2013, the DualShock 4 has become one of the most recognizable input devices in gaming history, introducing features such as a capacitive touchpad, a light bar for player identification, and a dedicated 'Share' button for social connectivity.
While Sony is a Japanese multinational conglomerate, the physical manufacturing of its gaming hardware, including controllers, is largely decentralized. Most PlayStation controllers are assembled by electronics manufacturing services in China, such as Foxconn or Pegatron, although Sony maintains oversight of the quality and engineering standards from its headquarters in Tokyo. Ownership of the brand remains firmly under the Sony Group Corporation, which manages its gaming division through Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), based in California and Tokyo.
