Hațegana is a traditional Romanian beer brand that holds a significant place in the cultural heritage of the Hunedoara region. Originally established in the city of Hațeg, the brand became a local icon known for its classic lager profile and deep roots in Transylvanian brewing traditions. For decades, it was a staple for local consumers, representing the industrial and social pride of the area.
Over the years, the brand transitioned from a local independent brewery into the portfolio of global beverage giants. Following the modernization of the Romanian beer market, the brand was acquired by Heineken Romania. While the original brewery in Hațeg was eventually closed as part of industrial restructuring, the brand identity has been preserved and production was moved to other modern facilities within Romania, such as the brewery in Craiova.
Today, Hațegana is managed by Heineken N.V., one of the world's largest brewing companies based in the Netherlands. Despite its global ownership, it is positioned as a regional value brand, maintaining its Romanian character. The ultimate ownership structure ensures that while the beer is part of a massive international network, it continues to serve the Romanian domestic market with its historical name and localized marketing efforts.
