HP Sauce is an iconic British condiment brand with a rich history dating back to its invention by Frederick Gibson Garton in Nottingham in 1895. The 'HP' stands for Houses of Parliament, after it was rumored that the restaurant there had begun serving it.
Originally produced in the United Kingdom, production famously moved from the Aston Cross factory in Birmingham to the Netherlands in 2007. This move followed the brand's acquisition by the American multinational H.J. Heinz Company from Danone in 2005. Today, the brand is owned by the Kraft Heinz Company, which was formed through the merger of Kraft Foods and Heinz in 2015. While it remains a staple of the British diet and carries a heavy cultural association with the UK, the physical manufacturing of the sauce is centered in Elst, Netherlands.
