OKQ8 is one of Scandinavia's largest fuel companies, established through a significant international partnership. The brand represents a joint venture between the Swedish OK ekonomisk förening (OK Association) and Kuwait Petroleum International. It operates a vast network of service stations across Sweden and Denmark, providing not only fuel but also automotive products, electricity, and convenience store services.
The brand's origin is rooted in the Swedish cooperative movement through OK, which sought to provide affordable fuel to its members. In 1999, OK's fuel operations merged with the Swedish operations of Q8 (Kuwait Petroleum), creating the OKQ8 entity. While lubricants and specialized chemical products are often produced in Western Europe and the Nordic region, the crude oil and refined products originate from global supply chains, including Kuwaiti interests.
Today, OKQ8 is governed by a 50/50 ownership structure. It remains a pivotal player in the transition to sustainable energy in Northern Europe, investing heavily in electric vehicle charging infrastructure and renewable biofuels. The headquarters for the Swedish operations are located in Stockholm, emphasizing its local cooperative roots combined with international energy expertise.
