Löwensenf is one of Germany's most iconic mustard brands, founded in 1903 by Otto and Frieda Frenzel in Metz (then part of the German Empire). The brand became famous for its 'Extra Scharf' (extra hot) variety, which was first produced in Düsseldorf in 1920, solidifying the city's reputation as a mustard capital.
Today, Löwensenf continues to be manufactured in Düsseldorf, Germany, maintaining high quality standards and traditional recipes. While it began as a family-run business, the brand underwent changes in ownership over the decades. Since 2001, Löwensenf has been a key part of the Develey Senf & Feinkost group, a large family-owned food company based in Bavaria that manages several traditional condiment brands. This ownership ensures that the brand remains under German control while reaching international markets.
