Founded in 1966 in San Francisco, The North Face began as a small mountaineering retail store named after the coldest, most unforgiving side of a mountain. Since its inception, the brand has evolved from a local retail operation into a global leader in high-performance outdoor apparel, equipment, and footwear.
While the brand was originally independent, it was acquired in 2000 by VF Corporation, an American global apparel and footwear powerhouse. Today, The North Face is managed as a key brand within VF Corporation's portfolio. Although the design and engineering often originate in the United States, the manufacturing process is global, with production facilities primarily located in Vietnam, China, Bangladesh, and other Southeast Asian nations to accommodate large-scale technical garment assembly.
