Founded in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 1989, Arc'teryx began as a company focused on high-end climbing gear before expanding into premium outdoor apparel. Known for its obsessive focus on design and functional performance, the brand originally started under the name Rock Solid by founders David Lane and Jeremy Guard.
While Arc'teryx continues to manufacture some of its top-tier specialty technical gear and select lines at its ARC-One facility in New Westminster, Canada, the majority of its global production takes place in specialized third-party factories across Vietnam, China, and various other international locations to meet scale and technical requirements. Ownership of the brand has changed several times; originally Canadian, it was sold to Salomon in 2001, which was then acquired by Amer Sports in 2005. In 2019, Amer Sports was acquired by a consortium led by ANTA Sports, making it the current ultimate parent company, though Arc'teryx maintains its design headquarters and creative operations in Canada.
