Chef Boyardee is a landmark American brand deeply rooted in the history of convenience foods. Founded by Ettore Boiardi, an Italian immigrant and head chef at New York's Plaza Hotel, the brand was established in 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. Originally created to help patrons recreate his restaurant-quality pasta dishes at home, the name was phoneticized to 'Boy-Ar-Dee' to ensure customers could pronounce it correctly.
Today, the brand is a major staple in the canned food industry, known for its variety of pasta products including Beef Ravioli and Spaghetti & Meatballs. It has undergone several ownership changes throughout the decades, eventually becoming a cornerstone brand for Conagra Brands. Manufacturing is centralized in Milton, Pennsylvania, a plant that has been the heart of their production since the mid-20th century, though some variations may be packed in other facilities across North America to serve regional markets such as Canada.
