Twinings is one of the world's most historic tea brands, with a lineage dating back to 1706 when Thomas Twining opened his first tea shop on London's Strand. The brand has held a Royal Warrant since 1837, granted by Queen Victoria, and continues to be associated with British tea culture and luxury heritage.
While the brand is deeply rooted in London, its manufacturing and sourcing are truly global. Twinings teas are sourced from estates around the world, including India, China, and Africa, and the tea is processed and packaged in several strategic locations. In 2011, the company closed its primary factory in North Shields, UK, moving much of its large-scale production to Poland and China, though some specialist operations remain in Andover, England.
Today, Twinings is a key brand within the portfolio of Associated British Foods (ABF). Under ABF’s ownership, Twinings has expanded into a global powerhouse, offering hundreds of blends and specialized infusions across international markets while maintaining its prestigious image and historical branding.
