Lactantia is a prominent Canadian dairy brand known for introducing filtered milk technology to the market. Originally founded in 1947 by Lionel Beaudet in Victoriaville, Quebec, it began as a specialized creamery before expanding into a full range of dairy products. The brand revolutionized the industry with its PūrFiltre line, which uses a fine filtration process to remove bacteria, resulting in a fresher taste and longer shelf life without more intensive heat treatments.
Today, Lactantia is owned by Lactalis Canada, which is a subsidiary of the French multinational giant Lactalis Group (formerly Groupe Besnier). Lactalis is the largest dairy products group in the world. Despite the international ownership, Lactantia products are primarily manufactured in Canada using Canadian milk, maintaining a strong local supply chain presence across various provinces.
