Paralen is a long-standing and highly recognized pharmaceutical brand in Central Europe, particularly in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It was originally developed by the Czechoslovak state enterprise Zentiva (formerly Léčiva). The product shown is specifically formulated for children as a paracetamol-based oral suspension used to reduce fever and treat pain.
Over the decades, the ownership of the brand followed the privatization and international acquisition of Zentiva. Sanofi, a global leader in healthcare headquartered in France, acquired Zentiva in 2009. While Sanofi sold off the Zentiva generics business to a private equity firm in 2018, it retained several household consumer healthcare brands, including Paralen. Today, Paralen remains part of Sanofi's Consumer Healthcare portfolio, which is currently undergoing a planned transition into a standalone business unit named Opella.
