Budějovický Budvar is a world-renowned Czech lager originally founded in the city of České Budějovice. The brand is deeply rooted in Czech brewing tradition, dating back to 1895 when it was established as the Czech Joint-Stock Brewery. It is famous for using high-quality local ingredients, including Saaz hops, Moravian malts, and water from deep artesian wells.

Unlike many global beer brands that have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Budějovický Budvar remains a state-owned enterprise managed by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. This status is maintained partly to protect the brand's 'Protected Geographical Indication' (PGI) status within the European Union, ensuring that the beer is brewed exclusively in its home city. It is widely known in many international markets as 'Budweiser Budvar,' famously maintaining long-standing legal disputes over the name with the American company Anheuser-Busch.
