Planters is an iconic snack brand famous for its mascot, Mr. Peanut. Founded in 1906 by Amedeo Obici in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the brand revolutionized the peanut industry by focusing on high-quality roasted nuts. Over the decades, Planters became a household name under the ownership of various food conglomerates, including Standard Brands and later Kraft Foods.
In 2021, Hormel Foods Corporation acquired the Planters brand from Kraft Heinz in a multi-billion dollar deal to expand its snacking portfolio. Today, Planters products found in Canada are typically managed and distributed through local divisions or partners. While the brand has deep American roots, manufacturing for the North American market occurs in both the U.S. and Canada to meet regional demand. The ultimate parent company, Hormel Foods, is a global branded food company headquartered in Austin, Minnesota.
