Angel Chimes, or Änglaspel, are a classic Swedish Christmas decoration dating back to the early 20th century. The product consists of a central pillar with a turbine at the top; when the candles are lit, the rising hot air spins the turbine, causing small wands to strike bells, creating a gentle tinkling sound. This specific setup also incorporates a nativity scene and a glass tree center.
While the original design is credited to Swedish inventor Erik Boberg in 1948, similar concepts have existed in German and Scandinavian folklore for centuries. Although the brand was traditionally Swedish, manufacturing moved to various locations internationally as the design became a global holiday staple, though high-quality versions are still associated with Swedish heritage and design principles.
