Löwensenf is a historic German mustard brand, famously known for its 'Extra Scharf' (extra hot) variety. The brand was founded in 1903 in Metz (then part of the German Empire) by Otto and Frieda Frenzel. Following World War I, the company moved its headquarters to Düsseldorf, where it became an iconic part of the city's culinary identity.
Today, the product is primarily manufactured in Germany, specifically at the factory in Düsseldorf. Ownership of the brand has transitioned from the founding family to larger food conglomerates. Since 2001, Löwensenf has been a subsidiary of the Develey Senf & Feinkost group, a major Bavarian condiment manufacturer which also produces products for international markets and major fast-food chains.
