Orion is a cornerstone brand in the Czech confectionery market, originally founded in Prague in 1896 by František Maršner. The brand became famous for its diverse range of chocolate products, including the iconic 'Kofila' and 'Margot' bars. The manufacturing process for many Orion products continues to take place in the Czech Republic, specifically at the Zora factory in Olomouc, which has a long-standing history of chocolate production dating back to the late 19th century.
In 1992, as part of the privatization efforts following the Velvet Revolution, Orion and its parent company, Čokoládovny, were acquired through a joint venture, eventually leading to full ownership by Nestlé. Today, Nestlé remains the ultimate owner, managing Orion as a powerful local brand within its global portfolio. While Nestlé is a Swiss multinational, Orion maintains its Czech identity through its recipes and production facilities located within the country.
