C. & E. Fein GmbH is a pioneering German manufacturer of power tools, renowned for inventing the first electric hand drill in 1895. Founded by Wilhelm Emil Fein and his brother Carl in 1867, the company has since become a global leader in professional-grade tools for metalworking, interior construction, and automotive applications.
Fein is particularly famous for its 'Multimaster' oscillating tool technology, which it patented in 1967. The company maintains its core manufacturing operations in Schwäbisch Gmünd-Bargau, Germany, which allows it to uphold high quality standards. While the majority of its premium equipment continues to be engineered and built in Germany, some components and specialized tools are sourced or assembled in other global locations.
To this day, Fein remains an independent, family-owned company. It has resisted the heavy consolidation seen in the power tool industry, where many historic brands have been absorbed by massive international conglomerates. This independence allows Fein to focus strictly on industrial durability and technological innovation without the pressure of mass-market consumer retail demands.
