Spaten is one of Germany's most historic beer brands, with its roots tracing back to 1397 in Munich. It is famously credited with creating the Munich Helles style in 1894 under the leadership of Gabriel Sedlmayr. The brand became a cornerstone of the Bavarian brewing industry and remains one of the six official breweries allowed to serve beer at Munich's Oktoberfest.

Today, Spaten is part of the Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu group, which was acquired by the Belgian brewing giant Interbrew in 2003. Through subsequent mergers, it is now owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), the world's largest beer company. In Brazil, the brand is managed and produced locally by Ambev at facilities like the one in Campinas, São Paulo, to cater to the domestic market while maintaining the traditional German brewing standards.
