USM Haller is an iconic modular furniture system that originated in Switzerland. It was developed in 1963 by engineer Paul Schärer and architect Fritz Haller. Originally designed for the USM factory headquarters in Münsingen, the system was so functional and aesthetically unique that it was brought to the commercial market in 1969. The brand remains synonymous with Swiss precision and high-end industrial design, having been added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The manufacturing process continues to be centered in Switzerland, ensuring the highest standards of quality control for its signature chrome tubes and powder-coated steel panels. USM remains a family-owned business, maintaining its independent status while operating subsidiaries internationally to manage global distribution. The modular nature of the product allows it to be reused and reconfigured, reflecting early pioneers in sustainable furniture design.
