Tony's Chocolonely is a Dutch chocolate brand founded in 2005 by journalist Teun van de Keuken. The brand was established with the specific mission of making all chocolate 100% slave-free, following the founder's investigation into illegal child labor and modern slavery in the cocoa industry.
While the brand is headquarted in Amsterdam, the majority of its products, including the Lil' Bits range, are manufactured in Belgium. The company operates a unique supply chain model called 'Tony's Open Chain' to ensure fair pricing and direct sourcing from cocoa farmers in West Africa.
In terms of ownership, the brand remains majority-owned by private investment groups and its management team. In recent years, Verlinvest (a Belgian investment vehicle) and JamJar Investments have taken significant stakes to fuel global expansion. Despite these investments, the company remains independently managed with a steadfast focus on its social mission.
