Mercadona is the leading retail grocery chain in Spain, famous for its strong private label brands such as Hacendado (food), Deliplus (hygiene/cosmetic), Bosque Verde (cleaning), and Compy (pet food).

The brand's origin is rooted in Valencia, Spain, where it grew from a small butcher shop into a distribution giant. Unlike typical retailers, Mercadona maintains a network of 'Totaler' providers—long-term manufacturing partners that produce goods under the Mercadona brands. While the vast majority of products are sourced and manufactured in Spain to ensure freshness and support local industry, certain products are manufactured in other European countries depending on the specialty or raw material availability.

Mercadona remains a family-owned company, strictly controlled by the Roig family. It does not operate as a franchise and owns its entire distribution network, ensuring quality control from production to the shelf.
