The Bodum Assam tea press is a classic piece of functional design, originally developed in collaboration with the British Tea Council in the 1990s. This teapot utilizes a plunger system that allows the user to stop the brewing process at the preferred strength without removing the tea leaves, mimicking the French press coffee method.
While Bodum was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Peter Bodum in 1944, the company's headquaters moved to Switzerland in the 1970s. Production for their high-quality glassware and kitchen accessories primarily takes place in Europe, specifically in Portugal, where the company owns its own glass manufacturing facilities. Today, the brand remains a family-owned business under the leadership of the founder's children, maintaining its reputation for 'good design shouldn't be expensive.'
