The brand was founded in 2021 by mechanical engineer Peter McAuley, who sought to revive the horological spirit of Belfast, a city with a rich history of shipping and exploration. The brand's design language is heavily influenced by Belfast’s industrial heritage, specifically the iconic H&W cranes and the history of the SS Nomadic.

While the brand is headquartered and designed in Belfast, the manufacturing process takes place in Switzerland. Nomadic watches are designated as 'Swiss Made,' ensuring that the mechanical movements, assembly, and final inspections meet the rigorous standards of Swiss craftsmanship. This combination of Irish design inspiration and Swiss engineering has allowed the brand to establish a presence in the boutique dive watch market.

Currently, Nomadic remains an independent watch brand owned by its original founder through his company, McAuley Precision Ltd. Unlike many mainstream luxury brands that fall under large conglomerates, Nomadic remains a small-scale, enthusiast-driven business focusing on robust build quality and maritime-inspired aesthetics.
