Created in 1868 by Salvatore Averna based on a secret recipe gifted by a friar from the Abbey of Santo Spirito, it has become a staple of Italian drinking culture. The production process involves the infusion of various herbs, roots, and citrus rinds in grain alcohol, maintaining the traditional Sicilian method since its inception. In 2014, the brand was acquired by Gruppo Campari, ensuring its global distribution while preserving its heritage.
