Milka is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate brands, originally founded in Switzerland in 1901 by Philippe Suchard. The brand name is a portmanteau of the German words for its primary ingredients: Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa). Famous for its distinctive lilac packaging and the 'Milka Cow,' the brand has a heritage deeply rooted in the Alpine region.
While its origins are Swiss, Milka is now produced in various locations across Europe, including Germany, Austria, Poland, and Bulgaria, to serve its global market. Ownership has transitioned through several corporate mergers; it was previously part of Suchard-Tobler and later Kraft Foods. Today, Milka is a flagship brand of Mondelēz International, an American multinational confectionery and snack food giant. Despite the American ownership, the brand maintains its European identity and continues to market its use of 100% Alpine milk.
