It is characterized as a 'White Cigarette' (Rokok Putih), distinguishing it from the traditional Indonesian 'Kretek' (clove) cigarettes. The brand is owned and produced by PT HM Sampoerna Tbk., one of Indonesia's largest and most established tobacco companies. PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. is itself a major subsidiary of Philip Morris International (PMI). Since Philip Morris International acquired a majority stake in Sampoerna in 2005, Commodore has been part of a global portfolio of tobacco brands.
