Rama is a well-known brand of margarine and spreads with a rich history in Germany. Launched in 1924, it was originally developed by the Dutch-British company Unilever to provide a high-quality margarine option for households. The product shown, Rama mit Butter, is a modern variation that blends vegetable oils with actual butter and sea salt for enhanced spreadability and flavor.

In 2018, Unilever sold its global spreads division, including the Rama brand, to KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), which established an independent company called Upfield to manage these assets. Upfield is currently the world’s largest producer of plant-based spreads and is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. While the brand remains deeply rooted in German culture, its ownership and strategic direction are now managed by this global entity, with production facilities spread across multiple countries to serve European markets.
