Original Danziger Goldwasser is a legendary herbal liqueur originally created in 1598 in Danzig (today Gdańsk, Poland) by Ambrosius Vermöllen, a Dutch immigrant. Famous for being infused with real 22-carat gold flakes, it became a favorite among European royalty, including Catherine the Great of Russia.
While the brand has deep historical roots in Danzig, manufacturing was moved to West Germany after World War II. Today, the liqueur is produced at the Hardenberg distillery in Nörten-Hardenberg. The brand is currently owned by the Hardenberg-Wilthen AG family business, which preserves the traditional secret recipe and the iconic 'Der Lachs' (The Salmon) logo.
