Nocilla is an iconic Spanish brand of hazelnut and chocolate spread, originally launched in 1968. It was created by the Grupo Starlux in Spain, inspired by similar spreads but adapted for the local market with a unique recipe. Over the decades, it has become a staple in Spanish households, often compared to Nutella but retaining a very strong cultural identity in its home country.
The brand underwent a major ownership change in 2002 when it was acquired by Nutrexpa. Later, in 2015, Nutrexpa split its assets, and Nocilla became part of Idilia Foods. Today, Nocilla is manufactured in Parets del Vallès (Barcelona), Spain. One of its most significant recent changes was the removal of palm oil from its entire range in 2018, replacing it with high-oleic sunflower oil and cocoa butter to appeal to health-conscious consumers.
