Alka-Seltzer is a globally recognized brand of effervescent tablets used typically for fast relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, and minor aches. The brand became famous for its 'plop, plop, fizz, fizz' marketing campaign, which highlighted its unique delivery system of dissolving in water before consumption.
The product was originally developed by the Dr. Miles Medical Company in the United States during the early 1930s. Over the decades, it became a staple in medicine cabinets across North America and Europe. In 1978, the German pharmaceutical and life sciences giant Bayer AG acquired Miles Laboratories, bringing Alka-Seltzer into its consumer health portfolio.
Today, Alka-Seltzer remains under the ownership of Bayer. While the brand originated in the USA, modern production takes place in various global facilities to meet regional demand, with major manufacturing centers located in the United States and Germany. Bayer continues to manage the brand as a key part of its international consumer health division.
