General Electric (GE) is a historic American brand with a legacy dating back to the late 19th century, founded by Thomas Edison and partners. While the brand is synonymous with American industrial innovation, its home appliances division underwent a major structural change in recent years. In 2016, GE sold its appliance business to the Chinese multinational company Haier.
Today, GE Appliances operates as an independent subsidiary under the Haier Group. While a significant portion of manufacturing still takes place in the United States—most notably at 'Appliance Park' in Louisville, Kentucky—the global supply chain means components and various models are also produced in multiple countries, including Mexico and China, to serve international markets. The brand continues to use the iconic GE logo under a long-term license from the General Electric Company.
