Kofola is an iconic herbal-based carbonated soft drink that originated in the socialist Czechoslovakia during the 1960s. It was developed as a domestic alternative to Western cola brands like Coca-Cola or Pepsi, using a unique syrup called Kofo which is derived from 14 natural herbal and fruit ingredients. This background has given it a deep cultural significance in Central Europe, particularly in the Czech and Slovak markets.

The brand has survived various economic shifts, including the transition to a market economy after the Velvet Revolution. Today, it is managed and owned by Kofola ČeskoSlovensko a.s., which has grown into one of the most significant beverage producers in the region. The production facilities are primarily located in the towns of Krnov in the Czech Republic and Rajecká Lesná in Slovakia, ensuring its local heritage remains central to its manufacturing process.

Ownership of the brand is currently held by the Samaras family through their investment vehicle, Aetos a.s., maintaining the brand's headquarters in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The Kofola Group has expanded its portfolio significantly, now owning various other mineral water and juice brands across Central and Eastern Europe, solidifying its place as a regional powerhouse in the beverage industry.
