Kägi Fret is a legendary Swiss wafer snack that has been a staple in Switzerland for decades. The brand was founded in 1934 by Otto Kägi Senior in the Toggenburg region, specifically in Lichtensteig. The name comes from the family name 'Kägi' and 'Fret', derived from the French word 'gaufrette' (wafer). Famous for its chocolate-covered wafers, the product has maintained high quality and a strong Swiss heritage.
Today, all Kägi products are still exclusively manufactured in the original location of Lichtensteig, Switzerland, using authentic Swiss ingredients wherever possible. Regarding ownership, the company remained independent for many years before being acquired by various investment firms. Currently, Kägi Söhne AG is owned by the Swiss private equity firm Burger & Müller, ensuring that the brand remains under Swiss ownership and maintains its traditional production methods.
