Lacoste is a historic French designer sports fashion brand, famously established in 1933 by tennis legend René Lacoste and entrepreneur André Gillier. The brand is globally recognized for its green crocodile logo, which was inspired by René's nickname on the tennis court. While the company started with revolutionary tennis shirts, it has since expanded into a full range of lifestyle products including footwear, accessories, and fragrances.

Lacoste's manufacturing is global, utilizing a diverse supply chain to serve its international market. Footwear specifically has been produced in several locations including China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. For many years, the footwear division was managed through a joint venture with the British Pentland Group, which held the primary license for Lacoste shoes from 1991 until Lacoste initiated steps to take full direct control of the footwear business in the mid-2020s.

Since 2012, Lacoste has been fully owned by the Swiss family-held group Maus Frères, following a billion-euro acquisition. Under this ownership, the brand has focused on premium positioning and global expansion while maintaining its core French identity and heritage.
