Burleigh, originally established as Burgess & Leigh in 1851, is one of the most iconic British pottery brands. It is uniquely famous for being the last pottery in the world to use the traditional technique of tissue-transfer printing, which gives the 'Asiatic Pheasants' pattern its characteristically soft, blurred appearance. This specific pattern, introduced in 1862, has become a hallmark of Victorian earthenware.
The products are still handcrafted at the Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England, where the brand has operated since 1889. While many British ceramic brands moved manufacturing overseas, Burleigh has maintained its 100% British production. Since 2011, the brand has been under the ownership of Denby Holdings Limited, ensuring the preservation of these artisanal skills for future generations.
