Freixenet is one of the world's most recognizable sparkling wine brands, famously known for its iconic black frosted bottle 'Cordon Negro'. The brand originated in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Catalonia, Spain, where its primary production and historic cellars remain today. Founded through the union of two established wine-producing families, the Ferrers and the Salas, the brand grew into a global powerhouse for Cava.
In 2018, a significant shift in ownership occurred when the German sparkling wine giant Henkell (a subsidiary of the Oetker Group) acquired a majority stake in the company. This created the Henkell Freixenet group, the world's leading sparkling wine manufacturer. While the brand carries Spanish heritage and the products are primarily crafted in Spain using traditional methods, its strategic and ultimate ownership is now based in Germany.
