Scholl, often known as Dr. Scholl's in North America, has a complex history and ownership structure. The brand was founded by William Mathias Scholl in Chicago in 1904. It quickly became a global leader in foot care and comfort footwear, recognized by its signature yellow and blue branding for podiatry products and its stylish yet supportive shoes.

Today, the brand's ownership is split geographically. The global Scholl footwear brand (excluding North America, Latin America, and Oceania) is owned by yellow wood partners, a private equity firm that acquired it from Aurelius in 2021. Meanwhile, the Dr. Scholl's brand in the United States and Canada is owned by Caleres, Inc., a major American footwear company. Manufacturing occurs across multiple countries, primarily within specialized facilities in Asia and Europe, to maintain the brand's standards for ergonomic design and medical-grade comfort.
