Don is an iconic Australian brand with a legacy dating back to 1947, when it was established by R.J. Gilbertson in Altona, Victoria. Named after the Don River, the brand initially specialized in European-style processed meats, quickly becoming a household staple for ham, bacon, and salami across the country.
The majority of Don products are manufactured in a world-class facility located in Castlemaine, Victoria. This facility is one of the largest and most advanced of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, ensuring high standards of food safety and quality control while supporting local Australian regional employment and agriculture.
While Don remains an Australian-managed brand with deep local roots, its ownership has shifted through major global food conglomerates. It is currently a key brand under the George Weston Foods (GWF) portfolio. GWF itself is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods (ABF), a global diversified food, ingredients, and retail group based in the United Kingdom. This provides the brand with global resources while maintaining its Australian manufacturing footprint.
