Planters is an iconic American brand founded in 1906 by Amedeo Obici in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The company revolutionized the nut industry with the introduction of Mr. Peanut in 1916, who remains one of the most recognizable advertising mascots in history. This specific product, the Party Crunch Mix, features a variety of textures including roasted peanuts, mini pretzels, and caramel corn.
Over its century-long history, the brand has changed hands several times. It was acquired by Standard Brands in 1960, which then merged with Nabisco. Nabisco was later acquired by Philip Morris (later Altria Group) and integrated into Kraft Foods. Following the split of Kraft Foods, the brand became part of Kraft Heinz.
In a significant industry move in 2021, Hormel Foods Corporation acquired the Planters brand from Kraft Heinz for $3.35 billion. Today, Hormel Foods, headquartered in Austin, Minnesota, remains the ultimate owner and distributor, overseeing production across various facilities in North America to serve its global market.
