C.F. Martin & Co. is one of the most prestigious names in the world of acoustic guitars, boasting a heritage that dates back to 1833 in the United States. Founded by Christian Frederick Martin Sr., the company is credited with inventing many of the features that define the modern steel-string acoustic guitar, such as the dreadnought body shape and X-bracing.
While high-end Martin models are traditionally hand-crafted in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, the 'Junior' and 'Road Series' lineups are manufactured at the company's own factory in Navojoa, Mexico. This allows the brand to offer high-quality tonewoods and craftsmanship at a more accessible price point while maintaining strict corporate oversight. As of 2024 and beyond, C.F. Martin & Co. remains an independent, family-owned business, currently under the long-standing leadership of the Martin family.
