Founded in 1865 by John B. Stetson, the Stetson brand is an American icon, famously known for inventing the cowboy hat. Over more than a century and a half, the brand has expanded from the 'Boss of the Plains' into a wide variety of headwear, including flat caps, fedoras, and lifestyle apparel.
While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in Philadelphia and the American West, manufacturing today occurs in multiple locations. Traditional felt hats are still largely produced by Hatco, Inc. in Garland, Texas, while specialized headwear like the waxed cotton flat cap shown are often manufactured through European or Asian partners to meet global demand.
Stetson utilizes a licensing model for its brands. In North America, the brand is managed by Hatco, Inc., while the European distribution and licensing (often responsible for the high-quality textile caps found in western markets) are overseen by FWD-Europe/Friedrich W. Schneider GmbH & Co. KG. The ultimate owner of the Stetson trademark is the John B. Stetson Company.
