König Pilsener, often referred to as 'König' or 'Köpi', is a premium German lager with a rich heritage dating back to the 19th century. Founded in 1858 by Theodor König in Beeck, near Duisburg, the brand established itself as a pioneer in the pilsner style in Germany long before it became the country's most popular beer type.
Today, the beer is still brewed in the historic König-Brauerei in Duisburg-Beeck, North Rhine-Westphalia, adhering to the strict standards of the German Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot). While it was once an independent family-owned entity, the brand was acquired by the Bitburger Braugruppe in 2004, which remains the ultimate owner and keeps the production rooted in its original German hometown.
