Ducados is one of the most iconic tobacco brands in Spain, traditionally known for its 'tabaco negro' (dark tobacco) variants. Historically, it was the flagship brand of Tabacalera, the Spanish state tobacco monopoly. Over the decades, the brand expanded to include 'Rubio' (Virginia blend/red) versions to cater to changing consumer tastes.

Following the merger of Tabacalera with Seita to form Altadis in 1999, the brand became part of a major international portfolio. In 2008, Altadis was acquired by the British multinational Imperial Brands. While Ducados remains a symbol of Spanish heritage, most of its large-scale production shifted from Spanish factories (like the one in Logroño which closed in 2016) to more centralized European facilities, primarily in Poland and Germany, to serve the global market and optimize the supply chain for Imperial Brands.
